Questionable
tactics and selection, underestimating opponents and
improper use of professionals in meaningless friendlies
are all common features of today's shocking performance
vs Sudan.
Egyptian national team failed at all levels
in the friendly match versus Sudan. The match ended
in an incredible 0-4 defeat. It is true that the match
was a friendly and not an official game but it was supposed
to give the Egyptian team a confidence boost ahead of
the match versus Congo DR in World Cup quals and not
to destroy the team morale!
Questionable Tactics:
4-4-2 formation instead of 5-3-2 for no
clear reason. Egypt will never implement 4-4-2 tactics
in away matches and particularly versus Congo DR. Playing
with 4-4-2 tactics proved to be a complete failure of
a tactic for the Egyptian team who always excel in 5-3-2
formation.
Questionable Selection:
Ahmed Hassan played a right back instead
of Mohammadi who stayed on bench. Mido played in midfield!!
It was hard to believe that Mido played the entire half
in midfield. Zaki and Meteb played at front, and Abotreka
had no clear role. Selection for that match was a joke.
In the 2nd half, Shehata took Mido off but it was already
late, Also correcting first half selection mistakes
came too late as Shehata had to take Abotreka off to
bring Ahmed Hassan back to midfield and introduce Mohammadi
in the right back position.
Underestimating opponents:
Egyptians played the game with extreme
arrogance and underestimation for the opponents. The
game is a friendly and everyone agree with that but
such careless display from many players is not acceptable
by any mean.

Starting players who are out of form:
Egypt's coach Shehata played many players who
who the African Cup in 2008. However, some of the players
are in abysmal form and should be removed from the national
team squad till they wake up and improve their form. A great
example is Hosny Abd Raboh who snubbed Osasuna for Gulf money
and appeared in a shocking form in today's game.
Calling Pros and Playing them in meaningless
Matches:
Amr Zaki will have an important clash with Chelsea
within three days. Still Shehata played him the full ninety
minutes! It is known that pros should be rested in friendlies
and only used in important official games. Playing Zaki for
full ninety minutes will tire him and could cost him a starting
spot in the coming game.
In addition to this, Mido played out of position
and it would be better if he was kept till the 2nd half. Shawky
on the other hand, played a full match for no reason. The
Egyptian midfielder have important match on Saturday and should
be rested, but Shehata decided to tire his professionals in
a meaningless match.
Finally, the result doesn't reflect anything
as the match was meaningless. However, it gave an indication
that Shehata was fully right about playing Hadary in all of
the previous matches.
