Heroic display by Egypt:
Who expected a 4-1 win for Egypt against a stars studdied
Ivory Coast? No one would expect such big margin score
in the semi final against the clear favorites of the
tournament. However, after watching the game, everyone
can see why Egypt won and how the score reached four
goals.
The match was a game between pace, individual talent,
big names and stars of Barcelona, Lyon, Chelsea, Arsenal
and eleven Egyptian commandos who are full of commitment,
spirit and loyality to their nation.
The game was different from other matches as Egypt
couldn't capitalize on possession early on as the Pharaohs
used to do. The game was toght and Ivorians dominated
midfield but witout marked danger thanks to the solid
Egyptian defense.
In the 12th minute, Egypt won a corner kick which reached
Ahmed Fathi just outside the box, he tried a volley
shot which took a wicked deflected and beat the Ivorian
keeper and went in to make the score 1-0 for Egypt.
The Ivorians went close twice in the first half after
the Egyptian goal, both chances were for Drogba who
tried to slot thre ball home with his right from inside
the box but El Hadary was able to block it.
Drogba also tested Hadary with a bullet header but
the Egyptian keeper managed to parry it and Hosny cleared
the danger.
In the second half, Didier Drogba headed the ball powerfully
after a cross from the right wing but Hadary made a
miracle save and turned the ball away for a corner.
Miuntes later, Egypt won a corner kick and Hassan crossed
it into the box, it came off the head of an Ivorian
defender and then Zaki met it with a powerful header
which hit the underside of the bar and went in to make
the score 2-0 for Egypt.
Right after the goal, Kader Keita scored from a great
long range shot to claw a goal back for the Ivorians.
However, Egyptian managed to score again when Hadary
sent a long pass to Moteb who headed down to Zaki, the
latter tricked Kolo Toure and sent a clever powerful
shot that beat the goalkeeper of Ivory Coast to make
the score 3-1.
Shehata then made a couple of changes to fortify defense
and make use of the gaps in the Ivorian defense as he
brough Fathalla on in place of Zaki who suffered an
injury and Zidan who replaced Moteb.
In the final minutes of the game, Zidan received the
ball in the left side of the box, he laid it superbly
to Abotreka who came from behind to send it into the
top corner and make the score 4-1.
