Egypt's hopes in qualifying to WC are in real jeopardy now. The Pharaohs failed to beat Benin and even barely escaped a 1-3 defeat by scoring twice late in the game.

First half:

The Pharaohs received an early shock. The match referee whistled for a penalty kick for the Benin side early on. Omar Tchomogo converted the controversial penalty to give Benin the early lead in the 6th minute.

After receiving the early shock, Egypt put pressure on the Benin side in order to equalize. Tardelli had to make an early substitution for the Egyptian side by bringing Ahmed Hassan on to replace Mohamed Abdallah.

The Egyptian side looked more dangerous but wasted many easy chances. The Pharaohs also scored a goal but it was ruled out by the referee.

In the 31st min. The referee whistled for a penalty kick for Egypt. It was similar to that of Benin. However, El Tabi failed to convert it as he placed it carelessly into the arms of the Benin keeper.

Minutes later, the Egyptian side pressed more on the Benin defense but the attackers failed to convert any of the chances. The most dangerous one was a breakaway for Abdel Halim Ali but he oddly missed the target.

One minute before the stoppage time and because of the poor defending from the Egyptian side, Stephan Sessegnon was able to double Benin's lead.

Second half:

Egypt made another substitution, Tarek El Sayed came on to replace Mohamed Abdel Wahab. Minutes later, Osama Hosny came on to replace Ghaly.

In the 66th minute, Hassan clawed one back for Egypt when he met the cross from Tarek El Sayed directly and sent the ball home.

Just four minutes later, Benin managed to add the 3rd from a fast attacking move.

In the 76th minute, Egypt managed to narrow the deficit to one goal as Abo Treka headed the ball home past the Benin keeper. 3-2 now.

Just ten minutes before the final while Hassan Mostafa managed to level the score again after chipping the ball over the Benin keeper. 3-3 now.

In the final minutes of the game, both sides had their chances but none of them was fruitful.

In the 90th minute, the controversial match referee blew the final whistle to end the game in a draw. It is worth noting that Cameroon managed to defeat Ivory Coast 2-0 in the other game of Group three.
