Egypt will face Algeria in the evening, and it will
be a tough battle between two rated North African sides.
EP looks into the big game.

PRE-GAME:
A win needed:
If Egypt lose then they can be almost sure of going
out in the first round. Should they draw, Algeria are
expected to qualify as they have what is supposed to
be the easiest game left against Zimbabwe, and Egypt
will face Cameroon in the last match. Due to this, nothing
less than a win is needed. Egypt will also want to get
revenge on Algeria who were an obstacle in their World
Cup 2002 efforts of qualification.
Some Algerians in doubt:
One Algerian midfielder has returned to France after
being benched. This is a bad sign for them. More importantly,
the defender who was expected to mark Mido is injured,
and so Egypt have a small head-start now in terms of
attack.
High attendance:
The match will see two of the highest attending fans
in the stands. Both nations have many fans in the tournament,
and Egypt may even have some Tunisian crowd supporting
them. It will almost certainly be a full stadium.
The odds:
The United Kingdom betting agencies have put the odds
on Egypt winning, but the odds clearly show it will
be a tough game with any possibilities...
Egypt win: 5/4
Draw: 2/1
Algeria: 15/8
PAST MEETINGS:
Algeria wins:4, Egypt wins: 2, Draws: 3
The never-ending rivalry continues. The two north-African
teams have met many times, and every game has increased
the two sets of fans' blood pressure and heart rate.
Algeria didn't have any luck against Egypt in the 1990
World Cup Qualifiers. Egypt got through, and played
themselves proud against the Dutch. After this though,
Algeria sought revenge and they got it.
In the 1990 ACN, which was held in Algeria, Egypt came
bottom of the group after losing to Ivory Coast, Nigeria
and Algeria. Algeria won the game by two goals to nil,
with Musa Saib being one of the scorers. Algeria remained
unbeaten for the ACN '96 Qualifiers, and won the next
two friendlies which were both held in Egypt. There
was a gap of four years, before it started again. Egypt
annihilated the Algerians by five goals to two in Cairo,
the scorers were Sabry, Barakat, El Saka and T.El-Saeed.
This put Algeria some way away from qualifying to the
World Cup, and it was between Egypt, Senegal and Morocco.
Then Egypt needed a win away to Algeria. Every Egyptian
was devastated as they saw a draw, with the Algeria
crowd in Annaba trying and trying to ruin the Egyptian
chances of success.
This will remain in every Egyptian's heart until this
day, and that will be the main highlight of the match.
This is the first meeting for the nations since the
1-1 draw. Even when Mido was asked by EP visitors in
his hosted interview with EP who he would most like
to score against he replied, "If I really can score
in the Algerian national team again I will do it hard
and without any mercy because really these people hate
us as Egyptian football players and if I have the chance
to make them quiet for many years I will do it without
any mercy..."
