No Egyptians for Rize

Date: 19-10-2004
Wrote: EP's reporter in Turkey Hakan Colakoglu

Caykur Rizespor lost their away game against Genclerbirligi without the two Egyptians. Hosny’s absence was understandable, but it was a big surprise that first choice Beshir didn’t play.

It still remains a mystery why Beshir didn’t play. Even one day before the game, it was expected that he would start in the first eleven, as he usual does. Without Beshir, Rize’s defense was very weak and vulnerable.

The reason for Hosny’s absence was a bit clearer. Hosny was supposed to be back from Egypt on October the 7th, but he returned to Rize almost a week later.

A staff member, Yilmaz Zehiroglu, said that the club would talk with Hosny when he got back and if he didn’t have a good reason, he could get a fine. So far, there is nothing about this possible conversation released to the press.

And because of his late return, Rize’s manager Riza Calimbay said in a press release that he wouldn’t add Hosny to the squad for the Gencler game.

In the same press release, Calimbay said that he wanted three or four quality signings in the transfer period to replace those foreigners who are not performing well.

He said that till now, Zdravkov and Beshir are the only foreigners who are performing well.
