Mohamed Zidan's HSV decided to hire the
Dutch manager Martin Jol as their new coach. The former
Tottenham Hotspur manager will replace Huub Stevens
who is heading to his homeland at end of season to work
as PSV manager.
Jol is very familiar amongst Egyptians
as he was the one who brought Mido on loan from Roma
to help Spurs end 5th in the table a couple of seasons
ago. He was also the one who brought Hossam Ghaly from
Feyenoord and the Egyptian helped the side to maintain
their 5th spot in the premiership last season.
However, Martin Jol let Mido rust ion
the bench for quite some time last season after the
signing of Dimitar Berbatov. He also took Ghaly off
minutes after he brought him on in the match versus
Blackburn last season. An action that resulted in Ghaly
throwing the team shirt.
Jol is a proven coach and will hopefully
give Zidan more playing time that Stevens who applies
more defensive tactics and prefers to play with a lone
striker.
"We are sure that we have appointed the right coach for
HSV", said the HSV boss Bernd Hoffmann.
Sport director Dietmar Beiersdorfer agrees: "We are looking
forward to working with Martin Jol." Jol will be presented
to the press in Hamburg next week.
