Mohamed Zidan returned back to to the
starting eleven vs Borussia Dortmund. The game ended
in a 1-1 draw as the Egyptian assisted Mainz' equalizer
in the 54th minute. Despite this, Zizou missed a penalty
kick that could win the game for Mainz as he hit the
foot of the post in the 55th minute.
Zidan didn't start for Mainz in the last
couple of matches and the side lost both games and fell
into relegation zone.
Mainz coach Jurgen Klopp decided to bring
the Egyptian back to the starting eleven in today's
away clash with Borussia Dortmund.
Mainz went behind by a goal in the 27th
minute through Dortmund's defender Christian Worns who
slotted the ball home with his right from close range.
The goal came through a corner kick which was swung
high into the six yards box to find Worns who made no
mistake and scored.
After the goal, Zidan got a chance to
score when he played a one-two with Da Silva and tried
a shot from the edge of the box but Zizou's shot went
to where the goalkeeper was standing.
In the 2nd half, particularly in the 54th
minute, a long pass was played to Zidan in the box,
he tried to control the ball on his chest but his misjudged
tough laid the ball perfectly to the oncoming Thurk
who slotted the ball home to level the score.
A minute later, Thurk managed to take the ball past his
marker who brought him down in the area and the referee
had no other option but to point to the spot and award Mainz
a penalty kick.
As usual, Zidan was the penalty taker but
this time he hit the foot of the post and squandered the
golden chance.
After the missed penalty, the score remained
1-1 as both sides couldn't create real chances till the
referee blew the final whistle.
It should be noted that Zidan scored three
goals from penalty kicks this seasson and today's miss from
the spot was his first in the current season.
