Police Strike Stops Eredivisie

Date: 10-3-2008
Wrote: EP's editor Islam Issa

EXCLUSIVE: A police strike means Sherif Ekramy's Feyenoord will not play for an unkown period. Their important clash at AZ Alkmaar has been postponed, as have all other league games including PSV's against Ajax. Meanwhile, Sherif Ekramys is back from injury and ready to play, he says to EP.

Sherif Ekramy said to EgyptainPlayers.com on Saturday evening, amidst the confusion in Holland: "I'm back from injury and have been training now normally for over three weeks."

He added: "I'm ready to play and look forward to having my chance."

Feyenoord are on course for a second place finish should they get the right results. If PSV beat Ajax when the game is back on, it would mean the league is almost in the Eindhoven side's hands, and also that Feyenoord can close in on second place Ajax.

1) PSV - played 27 - 59 point
2) Ajax - played 27 - 53 points
3) Groningen - played 28 - 50 points
4) NAC - played 28 - 50 points
5) Feyenoord - played 27 - 48 points

Feyenoord's match in hand against struggling side AZ is expected to see them push into the fight for second place, particularly if Ajax fail against PSV, but until the police strike is sorted out, the league will not resume.

Ekramy is currently subtitute to Henk Timmer but previously told EP that he would stay at Feyenoord were he to be the number one choice keeper.
