Despite the good form of Ekramy in preseason matches
and the desire of fans to see the Egyptian as main keeper
this season, the club coach Bert van Marwijk decided
today that the main keeper will be Henk Timmer and not
Ekramy. The decision could affect the Egyptian's future
at Rotterdam as he announced that he could leave if
not given the chance to play.
Feyenoord announced today that Timmer
will be the first choice keeper. The Dutch manager revealed:
"I have talked about this with Henk and Sherif
and they know my reasons."
He added: "I want to leave it with that."
Feyenoord fans had chosen Sherif by a serious majority
as their number one goalie, but it seems that Timmer
will be given a final season.
A leading Dutch football expert feels that Sherif will
not be able to move and that only a serious injury or
flop will allow him the chance he wanted this season.
"If Timmer's performances are consistent, then
he will play the whole season," he said to EgyptianPlayers.com
"I don't think Feyenoord will let Sherif go at this time
of the season; only if they find an experienced replacement
but I don't see that keepers are available in the market."
Ekramy may look for a move, as he had exclusively revealed
to EP, but this may now have to come in January. At almost
36, this may be the last season as number one for Henk Timmmer,
whose contract ends at the end of the season.
The Dutch goalkeeper will play the first match of the Eredivisie
on Sunday.
