EXCLUSIVE:
In a call with EgyptianPlayers.com on Tuesday evening,
Sherif Ekramy spoke of his serious desire to leave De
Kuip if he is not given number one. He added that the
Feyenoord fans are the reason he would prefer to stay
at the club.
In response to EP's partners Netwerk.to's
poll which saw fans vote him as their number one choice
for the new season, Ekramy said: "Since I first
came to Holland, the most thing I've loved at the club
is its fans. Since the first half I played at Feyenoord.
"I can't tell you how good they are. It's fair
to say that the fans at Feyenoord like me more than
the Ahly fans in Egypt.
"This (the fans) is the reason why I want to stay
at the club and play for it," he added.
However, Ekramy wants to be sure he is the first choice
next season and is aware that the competition with Henk
Timmer is fierce. Should he not be the number one, he
would like to go elsewhere in order to get playing time.
"It's the manager's choice. If he chooses (Henk)
Timmer then I want to go and play anywhere," he
revealed to EP.
"I've stayed at Feyenoord for three years and
the time has come for me to see what will benefit me,
particularly that I need to get into the national team
(for the 2008 ACN)" he continued.
He also told EP that he and his representatives have ensured
that this news is available to other clubs via a piece in
the Netherlands' biggest footballing magazine."This will
be released in the next edition of Voetbal International.
It will say that Sherif wants to move somewhere to play if
he isn't number one at Feyenoord.
"All we're doing is opening the door for other clubs.
Because my contract was extended, other clubs think that I'm
not available, and we're making them aware that I'm ready
to move in order to play."
Ekramy played a superb game against Liverpool earlier this
week, which will make the decision even tougher for manager
van Maarwijk.
