Sherif Ekramy became the only Egyptian in the Netherlands
and is now the only Egyptian goalkeeper playing abroad.
The young former Ahly stopper moved to Feyenoord to
join Hossam Ghaly, and even played for the club on some
occasions.

Sherif moved to Feyenoord and was already excited,
saying to EP: "I
like to think of my career as several stages, I passed
the first one and I am stepping into a whole new level
a much higher level but I am convinced that I will prove
my worth."
Indeed, quickly the coaches became fond of the Egyptian,
and within just a few days, the
club announced that he would be remaining in their
first team, against predictions that he would be leaving
to Excelsoir on loan.
After featuring for the Reserves, there was
only praise for Sherif, and it was clear that the
former Egyptian Youth team captain would make his way
up the club's ranks.
Fellow Dutch club Den Haag even showed
interest in the player, but Erwin Koeman rejected,
saying that Sherif is the important third choice keeper.
Goalkeeping shuffles
meant that Sherif would soon make his way onto the bench,
and by August this was the case. Patrick
Lodewijks' injury carved the way for Sherif's debut,
which he took full advantage of.
Ekramy excelled
in his first appearance against Heerenveen in April.
He was not only impressive with his shot-stopping but
also his kicking.

More of the same came away
to the mighty PSV. Sherif conceded to Dutch international
Cocu but was clearly confident, making a number of saves as
Feyenoord drew 1-1 in the toughest match of the season.
These developments led to Sherif's first international call-up
for the A team of Egypt. Although he was called for the initial
squad that would play against Spain, it was cut down and the
final squad didn't include his name.
Still, not even 23 years old yet, this keeper showed this
season that he could have a long and prosperous career awaiting
him...
