"Hema" & Beshir Beat Fenerbahce!

Date:13-2-2007
Wrote: EP's editor Islam Issa

Caykur Rizespor continued their impressive home form by beating league leaders Fenerbahce 2-1. Fener are still 4 points clear of second place, but Rize's win puts them in safe position and gives the top of the league a more exciting battle.

Heema (right) is making a good impression so far in Turkey...

New signing Ibrahim Said played a good game in the defensive midfield, wearing his number 44 shirt with the name "Hema" on the back. Beshir El Tabei also played at centre-back, and helped in the magnificent victory.

Rize started the game off well and had a header cleared off the line. But good luck came to them nonetheless after five minutes when former Genclberbirligi defender Deniz Baris accidentally handled the ball inside his area, chesting it onto his hand, leaving the referee no choice but to point to the spot. Zafer Biryol tapped the penalty in.

Egyptian star Ibrahim Said looked more than comfortable on the pitch with his new very short yet coloured hair. He even played a part in the second goal by making a cool and composed square pass in the midfield to Cem Baki before the ball had bounced. Baki found Ferdi with a good through ball and the latter finished nicely past Volkan.

Beshir El Tabei too was playing a vital role. He managed to scramble away dangerous pressure from Fenerbahce, once blocking a shot and once hitting the ball away for a corner after a lofted cross had caused havoc inside the six-yard box.

The second half saw expected pressure from the giants. Beshir, who was sticking to young captain Tuncay Sanli, was unable to keep up with his pace on a few occasions. Once, Beshir was completely taken by the Turkish international, whose shot which followed was saved by keeper Zdravkov.

Though Beshir was beginning to struggle, Ibrahim Said was just starting to play. The former Zamalek player showed superb pace more than once and began to make his way forward. The first time, he sprinted to tackle a player before running forward towards the edge of the penalty area, where he shot while stretching over the bar.

Minutes later, Said made an unbelievably fast sprint to intercept a loose ball before anyone else before marching forward. He found a defender in front of him but began to twist and turn, turning him inside out, before getting to the edge of the box. There, though he could have released a team-mate to the left, he chose to chip the keeper, but it went off target. He received deserved applause when he made way in the 67th minute.

In the 69th minute however, Beshir failed to pressurise Mehmet Yozgatli on the left side of the defence, and the substitute played a low cross into the danger zone which Semih latched on to to pull one back. But it was too late for Fener, who were well beaten.

Ibrahim Said was ecstatic after the game in his tracksuit, jumping onto his team-mates and manager to celebrate a victory the fans enjoyed every moment of.
