Beshir's Rize Fail To Hold Fener

Date: 21-8-2006
Wrote: EP's editor Islam Issa

Beshir El Tabei's presence wasn't enough to stop Fenerbahce from winning their third game in as many games, as Rizespor lost their first game of the season after drawing each of the opening two.

Beshir El Tabei has played the whole of the season for Rizespor, who drew their first two games against Antalyaspor and Sivasspor 0-0 and 1-1.

Playing in Istanbul against Fenerbahce is different, and had it not been for a goal at the very end of the first half, Rize could have gone away with a better result.

Beshir's team survived until the end of the half, when Tuncay managed to get a shot away on goal. Goalkeeper Zdravkov managed to stop the first attempt but Alex was ready to score on the follow-up.

In the second half, Ahmed Hassan's former team-mate Tumer Metin struck the second goal, this time Zdravkov having no chance.

It was a shame to see Rize's solid performance go to waste, but the visitors managed to pull a goal back in the 77th minute when Cem Baki used a defensive lapse and scored.

Rizespor have three winnable games coming up. They need their first win of the campaign if they are to repeat last season's pleasant surprises...
