Beshir El Tabei could have easily been sent off as
his club Caykur Rizespor continued their poor run in
the Super League. They drew with Ankaraspor 0-0, getting
their first point of the season after losing their opening
three games.
Beshir's next test is against Hassan's
Besiktas...
The first week saw Rize fall to Diyarbakirspor 1-0
with a goal at the end of the first half. Beshir played
a full game at centre back. The second game was a home
loss, 2-1 against Samsunspor, who won in the 89th minute.
The third match was home to the champions Fenerbahce,
in which Rize put in a good battle. Beshir El Tabei
took a midfield role for the game, in which Rize took
the lead via a penalty. However, two second half goals
meant his club would enter the fourth match-day on blank
points.
But they finally managed a point, which took them off
the bottom of the table, after a 0-0 draw away to BB
Ankaraspor. Beshir played the entire game, but it was
a lucky escape for his side and especially him.
Although there were efforts on goal from both sides
in the first half, the majority were off target, and
it was the second half that had the more interesting
moments.
In the 62nd minute, Ankaraspor's Jaba ran into the
box, where Beshir met him with a leg out, which clearly
tripped the attacker. However, unbelievably, the referee
gave a yellow card to Jaba for play-acting. The astonished
attacker argued with the referee and so the match official
quickly brandished a second card and sent him off the
pitch! This moment could have been different, as Beshir
could have been sent off, but instead, Rize now had
the man-advantage.
Just minutes later, it seemed as though an attacker
was through on goal when Beshir fouled him as last man
with a slight push. Again, the referee went in El Tabei's
favour, even though a whistle would have meant a red
card for the Egyptian.
Despite the advantage, a crossbar is as close as Rize
came, and so the game ended 0-0.
This was not the best display from Rizespor, nor their
defence, who were lucky not to concede. Now, they will
hope to build on this single point in order to move
out of the drop zone, which many have tipped them to
stay in.
It won't be easy for them. They face Ahmed Hassan's
Besiktas next...
