EP starts the annual season reviews series with a review
on Beshir El Tabei, an Egyptian players who exceeded
the expectations in a generally dissappointing season
for the most of other professionals.
After his solid performances with Zamalek
in 2003/2004 season, Beshir became a target of two Turkish
clubs who expressed their desire to sign him in
July 2004. From the two clubs (Rizespor and Konyaspor),
Rize were faster and signed Beshir for 3 years.
Many Egyptians didn't expect that Beshir
will shine quicky as he did. The Egyptian centre back
did well from day one in Turkey and made a name for
himself in Turkish soccer. Beshir was titular in his
first game for Rize, they
faced the champions Fenerbahce and managed to held
them to a 2-2 draw. Beshir's debut wasn't his best game
but it was an indication of the coach (Riza Chalimbay)
in him.
With help from Beshir, Caykur Rizespor
became one of the least goal conceding teams, and they
appeared to be keen on achieving European qualification.

However, the departure of their coach Riza Calimbay (The man
who brought Beshir to the club) to Ahmed Hassan's Besiktas made
things difficult for the Egyptian at Rize. The Egyptian defender
lost the kind support from his coach and the team form started
to deteriorate with the departure of Calimbay.
In the 2nd half of the season, Rizespor stuttered
in the league for many weeks till they got back to their normal
form near the end of the season. However, Beshir remained
unhappy at the small city of Rize and had hopes in Calimbay
to bring him to Besiktas as
he promised.
Beshir waited long for Besiktas offer that never
arrived, and when EP asked Alper Gokdemir, the agent of many
Egyptian players in Turkey, he confirmed to EP that Besiktas
will not be able to sign the Egyptian defender.
It appears that Beshir decided finally to listen
to offers from his former club Zamalek after being unhappy
in the small club Rizespor and losing hope to sign for big
club in Turkey or beyond. The player is currently close to
a loan move to the Cairo based club and might get back permanently
if Zamalek managed to pay Rize the 400.000$ that they asked
for to let him go.
