Rumpus Rize Destroy Diyarbakir!

Date: 14-12-2004
Wrote: EP's reporter Islam Issa

Beshir El Tabei and Ahmed Salah Hosny's Rizespor had little trouble in wiping Diyarbakirspor away. Murat Sozkesen scored a hat-trick to finish the opponents off 3-0. The referee also helped as he showed two red cards to the other side.

Beshir El Tabei still suffered suspension following his straight red card a couple of games ago. Ahmed Hosny meanwhile, entered the field as a second half substitute but had no time to impress.

It was the striker Murat that made the headlines, and showed off his wonderful finishing abilities. He scored all three of Rize's goals in this home encounter.

It was Diyarbakir that entered confidently, as a cross was made into the box but the striker's header was saved well by the goalkeeper Zdravkov.

After only 6 minutes, Rizespor found themselves with a man advantage, as the referee showed Goran a red card. It happed when in a Rize attack, the midfielders in the white jerseys moved the ball around well and the striking duo found themselves two-on-two. The ball was played square by one of them but was blocked by the defender's hand, denying the one-on-one. The referee didn't hesitate in sending Goran to the tunnel, something which made the game substantially easier for Rizespor. The free-kick was taken from just outside the box but it hit the wall and went wide. What mattered though, was that Hosny's club had to play against only 10 men from this early stage.

It did indeed make a difference. After just over half an hour, Zafer crossed into the box from the right, and Murat leapt before heading into the far post. 1-0 to Rize.

Despite being content playing against ten men, it was soon to be nine. In the last minute of the half, Rizespor's Zafer pulled at Sinan, who out of instinct, kicked him purposely in his leg! Left with no choice, the referee showed the second red card of the game. Rizepor entered the tunnel leading, and knowing that they would play with a two man advantage after the interval.

It took just minutes of the second half before Rize managed to double their lead. The Diyarbakir keeper threw the ball straight to Serkan, who ran forwards and passed unselfishly to the free Mura, and the latter was clever enough to chip the ball calmly above the keeper, making it 2-0.

Murat wanted more, and he got his hat-trick! Cem Baki picked the ball up and passed it square, and Murat was there in the crowded area to tap the bal into the net from around 10 yards out!

Rize had settled the game, but manager Calimbay gave Ahmed Salah Hosny some minutes of action. The Egyptian striker replaced Zafer with 7 minutes left on the clock.

The final whistle went, a convincing home victory against a helpless and at times foolish Diyarbakirspor.
