The dreams of Shikabala

From the first time the Egyptian Mahmoud Abdel Razek Shikabala came to PAOK he has been at the centre of attention thanks to his rich talent, with everyone's demands increasing a big deal. If this isn't the case then why has TV channel Al-Jazeera awarded the player for his efforts with PAOK.

He is the dearest boy of the PAOK fans, with his magical left foot, and even if he's only 19 he is from a rare handful of football players. He knows very well his potential and what is happening around him and feels bad because he has not yet given his full potential. He wants to satisfy all those who believe so much in his talent.

Even if he is not used to giving interviews he decided - with his agent Tamer El-Nahas - to break his silence and talk about everyone and everything. He underlined that he’s crazy about the fans of PAOK, he revealed that his role-model is Ronaldinho and that’s why he never misses Barcelona game, while dreaming to play with him one day in the great team of Catalonia.

“This is my craziest dream. To play at Barca with Ronaldinho.

"Until that day I will remain firm on reality and I know only that if I do my best with PAOK, and only if I help PAOK, I will be noticed and I will play for the national team of Egypt.

“If I were at Barca I would play on the right wing with Ronaldinho. I do the same thing on the PlayStation!”

- What do you do on the PlayStation?

“In my free time I play football on the PlayStation. I chose my favourite team which is Barca, then I transferred myself there, but I play on the right wing. I don't want to change Ronaldinho's position. And we are doing just fine!"

Tamer El Nahas says that Shikabala is just unbeatable on the PlayStation: a real pro!

- How was your first year at PAOK?

“Time goes by and I feel more comfortable at PAOK and Salonica.

"At the beginning things were tough for me because I left Egypt for the first time to play in a foreign team and I came to a country that I didn’t know the language of and the demands of the team were more then from where I came. But everyone helped me to adapt; my coaches, my team-mates and of course the fans. I have many things to learn at PAOK and even more to give. In general, I am satisfied and I want to help the team more."

- Your condition? How much more can you afford?

“I believe that I am at 60%.That’s why I said I can give more. I need time to fit and I am still learning things. When I'm at 100% I'll set new targets."

- What are your targets now?

“To help PAOK with all of my power to get a ticket for the UEFA Cup. It's very important for our team to play in Europe next year. I believe that we can achieve it. In the last two games we won and I hope we'll continue like this. With my appearances at PAOK I want to win a position in the national team."

- In general PAOK's season is not what was accepted...

“I know but I can’t explain it. The team has good players and good young players too and it's great because all of them want to show what they can offer. They are thirsty for distinction but on the other hand we have a lack of experience. In one or two years from now you'll see what we can do; all of us."

- In on or two years you will still be at PAOK?

(Laughs) "Why, where will I be? I have a contract and I'll honour it. I like being here and I believe that the team has a future and can do great things. We need time..."

- The reaction of the fans?

“I love their reactions and I want to reward them for all the love they give me. The promise with myself is to make all the people who believe in me and await great things from me happy."

- What do you miss from the life you left in your country?

“My mother and my family. But I knew from the very first time when I decided to play professional football that I would be away from them."

- What are you doing in your free time in Salonica?

“In general I am at home. Apart from PlayStation, I usually watch football games: games of PAOK (old ones) and others. I like watching Egyptian football and I don’t miss the games of the Champions League and especially Barca’s matches."

- The language...

“Now I understand more, but I can’t speak well. It's very difficult. I am learning English too. But on the field there's only one language: football.

- Are you afraid to drive here?

"My team-mates escort me to training. I don't have a license here, but in Egypt I drive without one! There, they know who I am and they let me drive!" (The writer adds that Shikabala doesn't say this in an arrogant way but as a joke).
