A lower division team "Apollon Kalamarias"
visited Toumba stadium yesterday in a friendly that
was organized after they sold their 19 year old midfielder
Stelios Iliadis to PAOK. The two clubs' owners agreed
a friendly in mid-August would be played in Toumba,
and the game's profit would go to Apollon.
But after that, Apollon chairman wouldn't
be the happiest person in the world, as only 3,000 football
fans appeared, because most of PAOK players were busy
with their national team's duties.
Captain Zagorakis and striker Salpingidis were missing
with the Greek team for a friendly in Belgium, Yasemakis
and Charalampous played for Cyprus, as Amir Azmy joined
the national team of Egypt.
Shikabala was impressive especially in the first half
of the game, dribbling in style and crossing the ball
with ease.
However, PAOK manager Nick Karageorgiou changed him
in the second half, stressing to the talented youngster
that he should follow the instructions that they had
agreed before the match!
The problem is, that although everybody in the club
admits Shikabala has the potential to become the new
leader of PAOK, the team's manager and the rest of managerial
staff want him to combine his excellent dribbling with
a more passing game, to succeed more as a team.
