Azmy Positive On Top Greek Sports Paper

Date: 24-3-2005
Wrote: EP's reporter in Greece Christos E. Dimitriades

EXCLUSIVE TRANSLATION: Amir Azmy has had an excellent start at his new club and seems to be enjoying every moment of it. This time he spoke for the first time in the greatest sports newspaper in Greece "Sportime".

Amir in action for PAOK

"I was glad to come to Greece and PAOK, because there is passion for something higher, you can understand that from the fans and from the players. I like that, because I am an ambitious person. I came here to do my best. I would like that some time in the future, everybody will talk about my style of play."

He added, "First of all, I would like to thank my team-mates, because they helped me a lot and that had as a result: a new call-up for the national team for me. Things were at the best mood for me to make Thessaloniki my new home. The climate is superb, I had travelled to many European countries but never to Greece. I am glad with the fresh air and the sea, that reminds me of my mother country.

"I see Greece as a very important step in my career, and I would like to follow the way of other famous Egyptians, such as Ramzy of Kaiserslautern or Mido of Tottenham. My dream is to play together with Zinedine Zidane. I know it is something very difficult to happen, but in football everything is possible, that's why it's fascinating."

Amir continued, "My goal firstly is to adjust to Greek football. I'm delighted to be here, where very skilful players compete. Some time later we'll see my athletic improvement."

Amir on Sunday had helped his side beat Chalkidona with a 2-1 score, in a rather boring game that was ordered to proceed without football fans, due to the violent incidents at the game against Olympiakos.

Now the Thessaloniki side have to face Xanthi in Toumba, again without fans, completing the two-match ban by the FA.
