It was surely the match of the year tonight at the
Toumba Stadium as PAOK and Olympiakos, two rival clubs
from the north and the south of Greece met.

Amir in action
The two clubs have not had the best relations and the
match between them is believed for decades to be one
of the most exciting
derbies in Greek Football.
PAOK had one of the most long traditions in the country,
beating Olympiakos for 26 years in Toumba, a condition
that has changed in the last years, as the Pireas side
sometimes manage to leave Thessaloniki with some points
in their bags.
The relation of Olympiakos with the Referee's Association
(proved with a scandal where the president of the Refereeing
Association of Pireas Mr. Bakas was involved) made the
PAOK people suspicious of every whistle since.
This Sunday things weren't different. A 30,000 sell
out was a fact since Friday and the Toumba stadium was
completely packed. A penalty that was given to Olympiakos
(21 minutes when Udeze marked Mavrogenidis) caused the
outburst of the players and football fans of Thessaloniki,
and nearly put the game to an unexpected end. After
5 minutes of disorder though, it started again, with
nothing that deserves mention happening.

The referee gave Olympiakos a penalty...

The start of the second half gave new interest to the game,
with the team of Thessaloniki levelling the score, via star
striker and captain Salpingidis.
As far as Amir Azmi is concerned, he was unlucky to get a
knock in the head, and his eagerness to come back into the
match was proved unwise. He collapsed after some seconds,
and everyone was frightened that something worse might have
happened. But afterwards it was proven that he was just a
bit dizzy. PAOK manager Nick Karageorgiou commanded his sub
to get on in the match to prevent something worse for Amir.
As long as he was playing, Amir was once again one of the
best players on the pitch.
Next game for Thessaloniki club is in Crete, where they are
facing Ergotelis.
