Brighton and Hove Albion currently lie in 23rd place in the Coca-Cola Championship, just one point off the bottom, and nine points from safety, with just six games remaining. Adam El-Abd has made more than 20 appearances for the Seagulls this season in defence, both as starter and sub.

El-Abd recently signed a new two-year contract with Brighton, with his previous contract expiring this summer. He spoke to EP about it, saying "I just signed a two year deal, which means my future for the time being is with Brighton."

It seems that the Seagulls are keen to hold onto the young talent. But the team may be playing League 1 football next season. The players are still clinging on to every last bit of hope though according to the 21 year old, who told EP, "the spirit in camp is still high although we all know its do or die now!"

Meanwhile, Adam's brother Sami was recently reported by the Egyptian press to have been called up by Ismail Yusuf for the Egyptian youth team. Adam confirmed these reports. "Sami is on his way out to Egypt on the 3rd of April to meet up with the team, which he is looking forward to," he said.

Egyptian reports had claimed that the young defender plays for Championship side Crewe Alexandra, but even though he in fact plays for a lower division side - as EP had reported previously - Adam is confident that his brother is good enough. "He plays for Crawley in the Conference," Adam remarks, "which is a good standard considering his age."

Adam El-Abd also spoke of the African Nations Cup, which was won by Egypt in February. "I watched the tournament," he exclaimed. "It was unbelievable." However he continued, "there were some very dubious decisions by the ref, but who cares we won!"
