Mark McGhee, the Brighton manager, indicated that Adam could start for the first time this season.

Paul McShane, who is on loan from Manchester United, has performed excellently for the Championship club, but is suspended after picking up five cards.

The half-Egyptian El-Abd was has played the last four times as a substitute, but had a groin infection which meant he could not be selected last time. Now though, it looks as though he will play from the beginning unless his injury means he is not 100% ready.

His coach commented on the club's site, "I imagine he will be fit. McShane will only be out for one game, so if El-Abd's fit then we are likely to go with him.

"Adam El-Abd has come on and done well when he has played," he added.
