Strasbourg faced FC Basel on Thursday night in the first leg of the last 16 round of UEFA cup. The first leg match ended in a 2-0 defeat for the Egyptians' side which will make their job in the 2nd leg match a difficult one.

The Game witnessed the returmn of Egyptian midfielder Hosni Abd Rabo to the main selection after his long term injury that kept him out of action for more than two months.

Argentinean midfielder Delgado gave the homeside the lead after just eight minutes from the kick off when he scored via a superbly taken freekick. Strasbourg fought back in order to get back into the game but another late goal from Zdravko Kuzmanovic secured a healthy two-goal lead for the Basel side.

The first half was generally for Basel who created more chances and caused much danger on Strasbourg's defense. On the other side, the guests improved in the 2nd half when the playmaker Yassine Abdelssadki came on to replace Loue. However, Zdravko Kuzmanovic's late goal came to end Strasbourg's dreams to get back into the game which ended in a 2-0 win for the homeside.

It should be noted that Abd Rabo and Abo Mosallam played together in the starting eleven for the first time in that match.

It is also worth mentioning that Strasbourg faced FC Basel earlier in UEFA cup and the game ended in an impressive 2-0 win for Strasbourg. Unfortunately for the French side and Abo Mosallam/Abd Rabo, they couldn't repeat their earlier achievement and the game ended in a 2-0 loss which will make the mission in the 2nd leg match a very difficult one.
