Another good display from Abou Mosallam

Despite their miserable league position, the controversial side Strasbourg continued to excel in UEFA cup and won the away first leg encounter with Bulgarian side Litex in the last 32 round by two goals to nil.

Strasbourg dealt well with the away match as they applied the counter attacking style of play which worked effectively from the first minute which witnessed the first goal.

The goal came through a fast counter attacking move as Farnerud managed to break the offside trap and advanced with the ball into the right wing, he then passed the ball on the floor in front of goal to find Le Pen who tapped it in to give Strasbourg the early lead.

The early goal helped Strasbourg to use counter attacks more effectively as the homeside had to push men forward and attack in order to level the score which give the guests the spaces they wanted.

Abo Mosallam did well on the defensive side in the first half, but he didn't push forward and most of his duties were only defensive.

In the 2nd half, Litex got a few chances, but Strasbourg's goalkeeper made some excellent saves to keep Litex' danger at bay. The goalkeeper also saved a penalty kick in the 78th minute which was the turning point in the game as the morale of Litex players went down after wasting the spot kick which gave Strasbourg the upper edge and enabled them to double the score later on.

Strasbourg's 2nd goal came through a defensive error as the Ivorian forward of Strasbourg Diane moved fast to pick up a loose ball and advanced on the keeper before burying the ball home into the bottom corner to make the score 0-2 for the guests.

Ahmed Abo Mosallam played equally well in both defense and attack in the 2nd half, he advanced frequently forward and delivered some fine crosses, he also moved well in free spaces and his passes were accurate as he never gave away a poor pass.

With this victory, the 2nd leg which will be played in France after 2 weeks should not be a major hurdle for the French side and it seems that they will be through to the last 16 round.

It should be mentioned that the 2nd Egyptian at Strasbourg, Hosni Abd Rabo missed the match because of the long term injury that kept him out of action in the last couple of months and prevented him from featuring in the ACN 2006.
