Sad Situation for Hosni’s Strasbourg

Date: 10-11-2005
Wrote by: EP's reporter in France Samy Shoker

This was the 14th match-day of the French championship. Strasbourg travelled to Lille who were as 7th before this game and if they were to win against Hosni’s team, they could be 3rd.

Lille are a rated team, and it was a match between two European teams who had played and won this week in European championships. Lille defeated Manchester United 1-0 in the Champions League while Strasbourg won convincingly against a more modest Tromso in the UEFA Cup.

The challenge was too difficult for Hosni and his partners and they were totally dominated against a very good Lille.

After only six minutes, the Nigerian Peter Odemwingie scored after a beautiful assist from the Cameronian Makoun, and Lille were ahead early.

Three dangerous chances followed for Lille, and Strasbourg were really smothered before half-time.

After coming out of the changing rooms, Hosni and his team showed another face.

In the 49th minute, the Swedish Farnerud shot at the post, as Senegal and Lille goalkeeper Sylva was beaten.

But while wanting to equalise at all costs they were exposed to a counter. In the 66th minute, Lille's left-hand side worked well via Lichtsteiner, who put a ball high into the box. The ball seemed to be leaving the pitch but the but the wind moved it above Cassard who was lobbed. 2-0 to Lille after 66 minutes.

The end of the match was poor for Strasbourg, as two posts saved Cassard from conceding again.

The final result was 2-0 for the better Lille.

Hosni Abd Rabo played a full game with an average performance, at the same standard as his team. Lille were quite simply stronger.

Strasbourg are unfortunately last in the league. There is a real paradox between Srasbourg’s performance in the UEFA Cup and in Ligue 1. They have only managed 6 points in 14 matches. They are also 7 points behind Ahmed Farag's Sochaux, who are the first non-relegating team!

The next match is against Nice and Hosni will certainly be in the team. Strasbourg must now win each match or it will be relegation into the 2nd division…
