Hosny's Strasbourg managed to defeat the Swiss giants FC Basel 0-2 in the first match in Group E.

In the first match of the group E, Strasbourg faced Swiss giants Basel away at the Sankt-Jakob Park. After the bad results in French championship, in which they never won any match after 11 matches, we don’t see how they could show a great performance against the Swiss champions of 2002, 2004, and 2005.

Hosni and his partners showed a very good game and were very efficient, something they truly lack in the French championship with only 5 goals in 11 matches.

Strasbourg entered directly in the match with a cross from Pagis which nobody recovered. But it was the first alert for Basel’s players.

In the 12th minute, the Swedish Alexandre Farenerud fired a shot that was denied by the post. At this moment of the match, Hosni and his partners should certainly think that the bad luck would still continue them in this match.

But Hosni’s team were rewarded in the 14th minute with a goal thanks to a header from the Ivory Coast player Amara Diané who headed home after a beautiful center from Pagis. 0-1 for Strasbourg.

Ten minutes later, particularly in the 24th minute, the other Ivory coast player Boka scored from a free kick where Zuberbuhler, the FC Basel’s goalkeeper, couldn’t do anything to save it. 0-2 for Strasbourg.

In the 30th minute, it was certainly the turning point of the match as FC Basel's Patrick Muller after being showed a straight red card after a foul on Diané who was clean through on goal.

After the sending off of Muller, things got worse for Basel as they had a mountain to climb in order to get back to the game.

In the 67th minute, Diané missed the third goal as he shot was denied by the the post!

In the 80th minute, it was the turn of LePen to hit the the post and another chance went begging!

Final result 0-2 for Strasbourg.

Regarding Hosni, he played the full match and showed a good game like the previous games. He was admirable on the technical level and received praise from the commentators: “ Hosni is very impressive, he always keep the ball in possession and he doesn't lose it to opponents. He is only 21 and he adds more value to the midfield“.

The next match in Uefa cup is on the 3rd of November against Tromsö at home. But before this game, Strasbourg will play and away match against Le Mans and hopefully, they will show something from their European form in the Championship.
