Hosni Scores His First Goal in Europe!

Date: 30-9-2005
Wrote by: EP's reporter in France Samy Shoker

Hosni decided to make first goal at a European club in a European competition, as Strasbourg reacted superbly after their defeat against Toulouse in the French championship. They crushed the Austrian club Gras AK 5-0 to advance into the Group Stage of the UEFA Cup.

Hosni marked his return with very good service and a splendid goal.

Indeed, it was his third match with Strasbourg as he was absent for the last three matches in the league after his dismissal against PSG.

He was very honest and had explained before the game, "For me, the season really starts today with this match."

Abd Rabo had also spoken about the six month injury to his partner in the midfield, the Malian Sidi Keita. "I know with Keita’s injury I have more responsibilities, and I feel ready to fill his absence." With the recently bad results and Keita’s absence from the team, Strasbourg really need him and he knows it!

Hosni played the full game and proved to his coach that he deserves his confidence with his goal and his outstanding service across the pitch.

He was so impressive that he has left no chance for Graz’s players to approach his goalkeeper. The Egyptian was also been very sharp and very fast, and recovered the ball for his side on many occasions.

The forwards profited from his big work in the midfield. He was certainly the key to the offensive efficiency of the team, with 5 goals in one game, whereas they had scored only 4 goals in the last 9 matches.

As of the 6th minute, Strasbourg took the lead. Haggui, who scored twice with headers against Toulouse scored again after a corner kick was played in in similar fashion.

In the 40th minute, the Swedish Alex Farnerud scored after a central pass from Boka.

6 minutes after the interval, Pontus Farenerud (Alex's brother) scored after a going in front of the goalkeeper.

On the hour mark, the captain Ulrich Le Pen scored after a beautiful volley.

And in the 68th minute Hosni played a nice one-two on the edge of the box, outpaced his marker and got into the area before firing an unstoppable strike that went straight into the top corner. Splendid goal! (Available for download on EP).

Final result: 5-0.

It was an exhibition for Hosni and his partners. They won 5-0 but after this match they knew they could have been able to win 7 or 8-0.

Hosni produced a good game with hard work in the midfield and it was all topped off with a beautiful goal.

Strasbourg have now qualified to the next stage. The team that we have seen tonight is not the team in the French championship.

The next match is against Troyes (who are currently 17th), away, for the 10th match-day.

EgyptianPlayers.com hope that Hosni will guide his team with more good performances so they can go up in the classification. Now in each match victory is practically a requirement...
