Strasbourg Made to Regret Missed Chances

Date: 28-9-2005

For the 9th match-day of the championship Hosny’s team played against Toulouse. It was a duel between the poorly classed Strasbourg (19th) and Toulouse (17th). Hosny couldn’t play this game because it was his last match of suspension.

A victory was a requirement for Strasbourg’s players but unfortunately they lost 2-4 after an incredible match, which didn't end in the advantage of Hosny’s partners.

Strasbourg played without Hosny and Keita, the two defensive midfielder of the team, and with Mickael Pagis and the Swedish Alexander Farnerud in attack. Strasbourg who had to win no matter what, and so played with a very offensive system and in the 2nd minute, they conceded their first goal.

After a defensive error, Battles scored for Toulouse with a powerful shout. After just 2 minutes, 0-1 to Toulouse.

Strasbourg had to react and after a corner the Tunisian Karim Haggui equalised with a beautiful header. After just 6 minutes there was a goal at each end!

But in the 8th minute, two minutes after the equaliser, the French international Daniel Moreira scored after a one-on-one against Cassard, Strasbourg’s goalkeeper. Only 8 minutes gone, and already 2-1!

The continued efforts were also spectacular. Strasbourg didn’t give up and continued to attack. They totally dominated the pressure of this first period and all the players of Toulouse were in defence, and played only in counter -attack.

Strasbourg profited from some beautiful actions in the 23rd and 35th minutes in particular, thanks to Alex Farnerud and the young Lacour. In the 40th minute, the effort of Strasbourg was finally rewarded. After an excellent free-kick, Karim Haggui scored again with head. The first half ended 2-2.

The beginning of the second half was a demonstration from Hosny’s team.

48th: Beautiful shot from Pagis but Toulouse’s defence clears.

54th: Haggui misses a hat-trick with a good header after a corner.

55th: Farnerud completed a wonderful technical solo and ended with a cross but the ball was put for a corner.

56th: Revault (Toulouse’s goalkeeper) managed a stop after a beautiful shout from Pagis.

Then, in the 62nd minute , Revault made an incredible stop after a header from Haggui. It was certainly the turning point of the match, as after this stop the opponents played a counter attack and even scored from it!! 2-3 to Toulouse after 65 minutes.

After this goal Strasbourg were totally absent and lacked morale to continue. It showed when in the 77th minute, Dos Santos, the "Tunisian" originally from Brazil, scored and sealed a win for his team. Final result: 4-2.

Strasbourg didn't deserve this result. Nor do they deserve their current position. They are actually 19th with only 5 points!

The situation is critical and the objective of the club is now to avoid relegation and survive in the first division. The last team outside the relegation zone is 4 points ahead.

Strasbourg had a big problem in the attack and miss a real goalscorer; just 4 goals in 9 matches.

The next match is against Graz AK in the UEFA cup and Hosny will certainly be in the team. We hope that Hosny will help his team achieve a better result in the Championship as well as the UEFA Cup after his come back.
